SWTOR 2014 Preview
Star Wars: The Old Republic isn’t dead just yet, as some in the industry are claiming. In fact, according to a producer’s letter today on the official SWTOR website, the game is set for a big year in 2014. The big news is that Bioware is planning to release 2 more expansions for SWTOR in the upcoming year. Although they didn’t go into great detail about this, they did have this to say about the new SWTOR expansions for 2014:
Expect to see two digital expansions in 2014 just like you did last year, with one similar to Galactic Starfighter in scope and one more closely resembling Rise of the Hutt Cartel.
The producer’s letter also discussed tomorrow’s SWTOR game update 2.6 which will feature the much anticipated Galactic Starfighter expansion, now going free-to-play. Galactic Starfighter will include 6 brand new ships including the new Bomber ship role that are capable of deploying mines and drones to wreak havoc on enemies. The cool thing about the Bomber ship is is can put down mobile respawn points in the form of Hyperspace Beacons to help out the friends in the Galactic battles.
SWTOR Game Update 2.6 also debuts a way for players to keep tabs on their match performance with the new Galactic Starfighter Detailed Scoreboards. To round out update 2.6, Kuat Drive Yards will be available to players at level 15 and above as a new modular flashpoint that will be different every time you try it.
The producer letter also gave a quick preview into the next SWTOR game update 2.7. This update will bring a new Tython and Korriban Flashpoint that will begin an entirely new storyline that will continue throughout 2014. SWTOR game update 2.7 will also continue to update Galactic Starfighter by adding a new playable battle zone. Developers are also working on a new tier of gear , a Quesh Huttball Warzone, and the Dread Fortress Operation in Nightmare mode. SWTOR Game Update 2.7 will release around April 8th.
As proof Star Wars: The Old Republic is planning a strong year, the letter also outlines game update 2.8 which is set for a June 10th release. This update plans on launching new Galactic Starfighter ships and a new Ship Role.
